Adopt-a-Commissioner’ might bring more transparency

MANILA, Philippines -- Election commissioner Rene Sarmiento has suggested that civil society look into the possibility of using the "adopt-a-commissioner initiative" as a strategy to encourage "transparency" in the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Sarmiento made his suggestion at a forum organized by the Transparency and Accountability Network (TAN), which hosted the event to launch an initiative to ensure the person appointed to fill the vacant commissioner's post in the Comelec does not become the cause of another "Garci controversy."
